General information

Following the established tradition of FOSS4G conferences, at the 2019 edition, the academic track will run in parallel with the general track. Thus, there will be 3 conference days, with sessions of 1.5 to 2h long. One slot has 30 minutes: 20 minutes for the presentation; 5 for questions and answers; 5 for participants to change rooms.

At FOSS4G 2019 Bucharest, we can accept an approximate number of 25 academic papers.

The main purpose of the academic track is to bring together researchers, teachers, developers, users and practitioners carrying out research activities in geospatial domains, with an emphasis on the open source solutions.

We invite you to present your research achievements, intermediate results, ideas, concepts and academic endeavours relevant to the open source for geospatial ecosystem.

Following the well-established guidelines, the Academic Committee discourages prevalent presentations of technologies or use cases without properly justifying originality to the scientific state of the art, emphasizing on particular novelty.

Academic papers selection process

  • Step 1. Authors are invited to submit abstracts written in English comprising 1000-3000 characters and containing sufficient details for the evaluation (including the approach, results, concepts, reasons why it should be considered and why it would be interesting for the FOSS4G audience). The contributions are accepted on an abstract blind review process.  Submitted abstract will be refereed for originality/scientific novelty, relevance for the FOSS4G community and overall quality by the academics and researchers from the Scientific Committee. We are happy to say we can accept up to 2 contributions per registration. If you choose this option and the abstracts are both accepted as good quality by reviewers, one proposal will be the oral presentation, the second poster (it will be decided based on the reviews). Alternatively (and based on the reviews) they can be both posters. Regardless of the situation (1 oral presentation and 1 poster or 2 posters), in this case, the authors have to write two papers for the Step 2.
  • Step2. Authors of selected abstracts are invited to submit the corresponding paper dealing with original and unpublished research before the deadline of May 30th, 2019. The papers will be published in the Proceedings of the FOSS4G Academic Track, which are “The International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Science” (listed in the ISI Conference Proceedings Citation Index (CPCI) of the Web of Science, SCOPUS, the E/I Compendex, and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). All papers should be formatted as per ISPRS author’s guidelines (download here the templates: DOC, LATEX or PDF file).
