Anca was born in Braila, Romania in 1984. She received her PhD in Electronics and Telecommunications in 2012 from University Politehnica of Bucharest, with a thesis focusing on the recognition of relevant man-made structures in SAR satellite observations. She is an Assistant Professor of Information Theory at the same university. Anca has a strong background in product innovation and over 10 years of experience as engineer and principal investigator looking at how new Earth Observation capabilities and Open data can be used to gain insights on problems concerning dynamics of natural and urban areas, hazard assessment, or safety and security. Currently she is an Earth Observation Open Data Scientist in the Science Division at ESA-ESRIN.
