The Faculty of Geography today, part of the famous and prestigious Babes-Bolyai University, certainly features the advantages of ‘youth’: dynamism, ingenuity, openness and pragmatism. These aspects became prominent especially after 1994 when the faculty became an autonomous institutional structure within the Babes-Bolyai University. If until 1990 there were at most one hundred students enrolled in the Faculty of Geography in a single undergraduate programme (Geography), currently there are more than 2,000 students enrolled in five undergraduate programmes, four master’s programmes and one Doctoral School. Since then, to the benefit of students, the teaching staff, which has always been a highly trained one, has been considerably revived and the facilities for study in libraries, lecture theatres, laboratories and bases of practical training have been brought to the highest standards both in the faculty and in the academic extensions which it has established in Bistrița, Gheorgheni, Sighetu-Marmației and Zalău, to serve the needs of the young people who, for various reasons, decided to study close to their place of origin.
