State University of Tiraspol

Tiraspol State University (UST) is the first higher education institution in the Republic of Moldova. It was founded on 1930. Tiraspol State University has been evacuated from Tiraspol (Transnistria) to Chisinau municipality since 1992. Faculty of Geography was established in 1938. The UST is a public institution in the Republic of Moldova’s higher education system, subordinated to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research of the Republic of Moldova. The UST works under the conditions of university autonomy in the areas of leadership, structuring and functioning of didactic, research and innovation activity, also benefiting from non-profit financial autonomy. Within the Faculty of Geography there are two departments: General Geography and Human & Regional Geography and Tourism, and a Laboratory of of Geographic Information Systems.
